Emerson Elementary is a Title I school in Owosso serving kindergarten through fifth grade students. Even though we are the largest elementary school in Owosso, our Emerson staff is proud to meet the needs of each individual learner and we value the importance of nurturing the whole child while building meaningful relationships.
In Owosso, our curriculum is second to none, and we are proud to offer a unique Encore experience where children explore a love of global arts, music, science fitness, sports, and technology. Our music curriculum introduces fourth grade students to playing the recorder, while fifth graders learn to play the ukulele, as well as an introductory band opportunity. In keeping with our International Baccalaureate (PYP) philosophy, children experience a global arts rotation where they learn the cultures of Germany, France, Mexico, and Italy. Our trained Project Lead the Way staff engage students in engineering lessons beginning in kindergarten through 5th grade. Our instructional philosophy focuses on an inquiry based approach, where children learn to be global, well-rounded thinkers and learners. We believe in teaching students how to think, rather than what to think.
Owosso Public Schools value the love of learning and meeting students' individual and academic needs. Emerson employs two full-time, certified literacy specials as well as a Math Recovery trained mathematics specialist. Developing a love of literacy is infectious at Emerson School. Children can be found taking from and donating to our “Little Free Library” located outside our school, year round. Throughout the school year, Emerson families will also enjoy parent engagement nights where they learn to support their children as readers, scientists, and mathematicians.
